Introduction

Are you a fan of Wordle (thank you Josh Wardle for creating it and to New York Times for publishing it)? If you are not, this blog is unlikely to be of interest to you!

Anyone who has solved a Wordle will most likely have used and considered using several words to get to the solution. One day I wondered if it were possible to make up a yarn about something or other using those words? I thought this would be fun to do. I’ve been surprised at the results, especially as I don't consider myself someone with great imagination or English writing skills.

Some of these yarns are pretty rubbish, some you can see I didn’t try very hard, a lot are quite weird, but mostly they are funny to some extent. Some are true / factual or partly so. Most of the characters are fictional, though some aren’t. None of the yarns are crude or erotic and I trust that any comments keep to the same standard.

I apologise in advance if any of these yarns touches a raw spot for you.

In the yarns I highlight words I had used in my solution but which were wrong in red, words which I thought about using (but didn’t use) in italic and the solution in bold underline. I’m a creature of habit, so the first word are the same each day. I don’t incorporate thes word since (a) it would be boring and (b) it would reveal my magic starting word! Instead, in later yarns, I include the letter(s) that are in the solution somewhere from the first line at the beginning of the yarn, highlighted in UPPER-CASE and latterly underlined. (For earlier posts I also had a pet 2nd line which got treated the same way as the first line.)

A separate page shows you historic Wordle yarns. Fresh ones should appear each day.

Since December 2023 many posts include two yarns, the first one being written by my 9-year-old granddaughter. Some of these are illustrated by her.

Enjoy or groan as you find them!
